igm à Essen 2009

A l’occasion de la foire internationnale du soudage à Essen, igm a présenté ses tout dernier développements:

• Robot RTi 390: nouvelle mécanique, volume de travail de diamètre 4 600 mm, nouvelle technologie pour une vitesse d’axes plus grande.
• Générateur de soudage iARC 5000: nouvelle source de soudage igm pour MIG/MAG avec un facteur de marche de 500 A à 100% DC
• Faisceau de souadge: faisceau de soudage optimisé avec guide fil renforcé
• Machine de chanfreinage iBS: nouveau design pour notre machine de chanfreinage armoire RCI, console de type K5 et parallélogramme nouveau concept.
• Caméra Laser iCAM: présentation de la caméra igm en suivi de joint et contrôle de volume en chanfrein sur robot de soudage et pour la première fois en suivi de profil sur machine de chanfreinage.
• Programmation Hors ligne: programmation du robot par PC directement avec console K5.

6 Days in the Focus of Welding Technology

The exhibition Schweißen & Schneiden (welding & cutting) is representing every four years the major platform for everybody being involved in this branch for getting informed about the latest developments and future aspects. Despite of the economically turbulent times the number of visitors was again very satisfying, even though it could be expected to be higher. Supposing some money saving tendencies of companies, there could be stated a positive aspect: rather high level managers and owners visited the fair, pushing up again the quality of the contacts made.

However, the visitor traffic was impressive: we could register sales leads from 43 countries world wide; with some of them we had interesting and detailed discussions. Of course we highly appreciated to welcome already existing customers and business friends, who took the opportunity of this come-together for informal but informative chats.

Exhibit: Robot System for Welding of Rear Frames

A large scale welding robot system for sensor controlled welding of rear frames was one of the main exhibits. The column was assembled to a rotary module; a cantilever arm has been travelling on this column carrying the welding robot RTi 330. The work piece was taken up by an L-shaped manipulator with a payload of 3,000 kg. The Laser camera iCAM was shown with its functionalities joint-tracking and adaptive control of the welding parameters.

Exhibit: Robot System RTi 390

The new welding robot generation RTi 390 has been showcased to the public in occasion of the Schweissen & Schneiden 2009. It is not only the working enveloped enlarged by 200 mm, which significantly improves the accessibility of the robot in upright position, important changes have been carried out with drives and media guiding: e. g. the hose package can be changed without any tools. For the first time in public, the new igm welding power source iARC 5000 has been presented, featuring in an admissible load of 500 A at 100% duty cycle.

Exhibit: iBS bevelling machine for sensor-guided chamfering of flat sheet metals

Apart from the rationalisation of the cutting process itself, the exactly executed chamfering inspires ideas for a rationalising of the welding process which follows. The iBS bevelling system allows the chamfering angles to be adjusted exactly and to be maintained along the whole of the plate edge. Depending on the plate thickness, the iBS is able to process to within a tolerance range of +/- 0.5 millimetres. What would be scarcely imaginable for practical purposes in a manual chamfering context the machine can manage with ease: the chamfering angle can be continuously varied in the automatic processing of a work piece. Quite apart from this, a chamfering of bent and circular contours is possible. The iBS machine chamfers internal and external contours - and apart from this it is possible to cut funnel-shaped holes, e.g. in machine components made from thick metal plates.

The new version presented is controlled via the well-proven igm teach pendant K5, the igm developed laser camera iCAM is applied for online edge tracking.

The reputed Indian manufacturer of construction machinery M/s L&T Komatsu Limited in Bangalore has decided for igm welding robots to weld their excavator booms.

• Suspended mounted welding robot on a rotary arm what is travelling on a floor track.
• TWIN wire double welding technology for highest welding wire deposit of minimum 15kg/h
• Single axis manipulator set with headstock and tailstock on motarised displacement track
• BOOM workpiece is clamped on vertical slides to enable welding in gravity welding

To meet their high expectations in welding quality, L/T Komatsu Limited decided to use a sophisticated laser camera for tracking welding seams, adapted filling and volume compensation of the varying welding groove.

Best accessibilty for narrow welding seams:

Using the unique igm TWIN torch in swan neck design, optimum accessibility is guarantee even in difficult welding seam like the ear plates of the boom workpiece.

iPAT is a tool for the offline step program manipulation and merge (by template programs). iPAT is embedded in the K5 robot programming software and can directly be used on the machine or the K5 Offline System. iPAT allows to specify workpiece related length- and position changes.

All user specific inputs occur in a free definable input dialog, which will be custom specifically adapted to the particular application.

Miscellaneous extensions in the program short view dialog of the K5 software ease the setup for iPAT manipulations.

The entire process and definition of the user inputs will be controlled by the iPAT command file in Windows-INI format. Also all necessary calculations for the specific program shifts and manipulations will be entered in this file. Program shifts can be performed with the robot or with the tracks as well as with both in a mixed manner. Furthermore the working station change (substation change) will be supported.

Example

As simple example we use a “square ladder”, the crossbeams of which have to be welded with the main chassis beams in all four corners. The work piece will be mounted on a rotary manipulator.

Inputs in iPAT will be reduced to the basic elements, the positions of which have to be defined. In this case the blue, magenta and green parts will be positioned along the main beams. Also the side width can be entered.

Due to increased demand of production during the past years, igm decided to build an additional workshop at the assembly factory location Györ.

This additional assembly workshop accommodates latest state of art assembly facilites, manufacturing line for control cabinets and cables.

As usual, before shipment of the welding robot system, the entire system is built up 1:1 and has to undergo extensive tests ensuring a working system at the customer’s site.

Further to the assembly factory, also our production factory has been expanded by additional most modern machining centres for machining beams up to 10m lenghts, boring machines and other machinery. 

Additional capacities in machining and assembly of the system also call for an expansion of our painting shop and material cleaning stations. The use of environmental friendly water based paints demonstrates again our responsbility for the environment.

Due to this comprehensive expansion of our production facilites, igm will be prepaired for the increased production demands in the comming years to ensure on-time deliveries and constant quality.
