The two Austrian engineers Mr. Günther KLOIMÜLLER and Mr. Franz VOKURKA founded the company igm “Industriegeräte und Maschinenfabriks GmbH” in Vienna, a trading house welding products, specialised for automated welding solutions.
1975

igm relocates to the newly established headquarters in the industrial park Wiener Neudorf, just outside Vienna.
1979

Engagement in arc robot welding technology by developing the unique double-arm welding robot “LIMAT 2000″.
1981

igm received the treasured “Austrian National Prize for Innovation” award for developing the “LIMAT 2000″ welding robot.
January 1983
The Austrian national coat of arms was awarded to igm as a silk ribbon for excellence.
February 1983
Development of the first articulated welding robot “RT280-5″.
1985
Delivery of the first large-scale welding robot systems to reputed international customers which was at that time unique in the world.
1987
Extension of the production facility in Wiener Neudorf by construction of a new assembly factory for large-scale welding robot systems.
January 1989
Introduction of the opto-electronic camera system “ISIP” for welding seam tracking of high-volume welding seams and adapted filling to cover varing gap tolerances.
February 1989
Going public at the Vienna Stock Exchange and change of company name to igm Robotersysteme AG.
September 1990
Opening of new office building at igm headquarter in Wiener Neudorf, near Vienna.
October 1990
Start of the joint venture with the company Roper in Györ regarding production of components for robot systems.
1991
igm delivers the first welding robot system to India. M/s BEML in Mysore is one of the pioneers in using arc welding robots in India.
1992
Set-up of sales organizations service organizations throughout the world is completed. igm is represented in more than 20 countries.
1995
Steigerwald Strahltechnik with headquarters in Puchheim near Munich is added to the igm Group. This expands the product line to electron beam and laser technique.
1997
Further extension by acquiring 67% of Oxytechnik GmbH in Bad Soden.
1999
Polysoude in Nantes becomes a 100% subsidiary of the igm Robotersysteme AG. This makes the igm Group worldwide the sole manufacturer and supplier of automated welding and cutting techniques ranging from the welding arc and laser to the electron beam.
2000
Development of the new digital robot generation “RTi” with a PC based control system and the Microsoft Windows based teach pendant “K5″.
April 2002
Opening of the new assembly centre in the industrial park Györ to accomodate increased production requirements.
September 2002
igm celebrates its 35-year anniversary with summer festivities in Wiener Neudorf.
January 2003
igm acquires 47,46 % of the PTR Group.
February 2004
The newly developed programming system “off-line teaching” is applied for large-scale installations featuring laser seam sensing.
Dezember 2004
A large-scale installation with 15 + 9 integrated axes and a welding capacity of 2400Amp is delivered.
June 2007
igm celebrates 40 Years of automated welding technology business.
July 2007
igm opens up their own 100% daughter company in India, igm Roboticsystems India Private Limited to establish local sales support and after sales service support.
